A little slice of the Great Down Under came to St. Joseph’s Catholic High School Wednesday when principal Mark Searson was presented with a special gift in honour of Australia Day.
Making the presentation was Mr. Micheal Hall, who recently joined the SJCHS staff from Australia as part of an exchange program involving teachers. Going the other way in the trade was Mr. Russ Connors, who will be teaching down under for the next year.
The centrepiece of the presentation involved the gift of an Australian flag.
Australia Day, January 26th, is a day of reflection where Australians celebrate national achievements made over the course of their nation’s history. As well, the date also commemorates the arrival of the first ship bearing English-speaking settlers at Botany Bay, way back in 1788.
We here at St. Joe’s, in our way, are proud to be part of that wonderful heritage.
